Change of use of a 1970’s office building with a three-storey vertical roof extension to student accommodation.

The practice was approached to look at the project with a view of creating 300 plus student units with associated welfare and social spaces. We were to reuse an existing building for a new purpose whilst improving its visual appearance to make a major contribution to the overall appearance of Fitzalan Place. Moreover, to enliven its ground floor presence and improve how it engages with the street,

Coupling sustainability with placemaking upsides and positive effects on housing, the project will make a secondary street in Cardiff alive again, to the betterment of the city as a whole
